Posta

Transactional email you run yourself.

Posta is a self-hosted email platform for developers. Send over SMTP or an HTTP API. Watch every message in a dashboard.

Bun · TypeScript · PostgreSQL

How it works

3 steps
  1. 01

    Send.

Call the HTTP API or relay over SMTP. The API matches Resend, so moving across means changing two environment variables.

  2. 02

    Track.

Every message lands in the dashboard with its delivery status. Opens, clicks, bounces and complaints are recorded, and webhooks are signed.

  3. 03

    Verify.

Add your sending domain and Posta checks the DKIM, SPF and MX records. Bounce and complaint rates are watched for you.

What you get

Open source
  • A Resend-compatible API

Send, batch, get and cancel use the same request and response shapes. A migration command moves your contacts, templates and domains.

  • Your own AWS SES

Mail goes out through your account, at your price, with your reputation. Posta never sits in the middle.

  • Domains and DKIM

Guided DNS verification, with DNS checks you can re-run. Bring your own DKIM key or let SES manage it.

  • Contacts and broadcasts

Segments, topics, CSV import and scheduled sends, with one-click unsubscribe built in.

  • Inbound mail

Receive mail on a verified domain, with optional virus scanning. This part is in beta.

  • An SMTP relay

Point an existing app at it and authenticate with an API key. Nothing to rewrite.

Run it yourself

No account. No licence key.

There is no account to create, no licence key to paste and no plan to pick. It is open source and free to use.

You need

  • Docker with Compose
  • An AWS account with SES access. A sandbox account can only send to verified addresses.
  • A sending domain you control
mkdir posta && cd postanpx @tack-labs/posta-setup

The wizard writes a .env with generated secrets, creates the AWS resources if you want it to, and starts Posta with Docker Compose. Every step is optional and safe to run again. The dashboard opens at http://localhost:3000.
